Bulgaria Air renews its fleet with new modern Airbus A220 aircraft

In 2023, Bulgaria Air, part of the leading aviation company Bulgarian Airways Group EAD in the holding structure of Himimport AD, started the process of renewal of its fleet with the delivery and commissioning of three new, more environmentally friendly, and modern aircraft from the Airbus A220 family. Between July and November 2023, three functional A220-300 aircraft arrived from the factory in Canada to Sofia as part of the national carrier's order for a total of seven Airbus aircraft.

The new additions to the fleet already operate scheduled flights on the airline's domestic and international routes. They provide a high level of passenger comfort in Business Class and Economy Class and have a significantly lower environmental footprint than their predecessors.

New A220-300s aircraft have 8 seats in business class and 135 in economy. The non-standard 3-by-2 seat configuration provides a wider aisle and 80% passenger seating in preferred seats next to a window or aisle. Other significant benefits include wider seats in business and economy class, USB ports for charging electronic devices, and increased cargo volume. The window size in the new model has been increased by 50% compared to the predecessor Airbus A320, ensuring a brighter and more comfortable cabin for all passengers, from where spectacular views can be enjoyed from 10,000m up.

The Airbus A220 consumes 25% less fuel, emissions are reduced by 25%, and the noise footprint is 34% lower than that of the previous generation aircraft. These facts make the A220 highly suitable for airports close to urban areas, and operating the aircraft is another step forward in implementing the airline's green policy.

The next brand-new A220 aircraft is expected to be delivered in March 2024. After passing the registration process, the fourth aircraft is expected to enter commercial operation very soon and serve Bulgaria Air passengers on all destinations of the Bulgarian national carrier.

By renewing its fleet, the airline Bulgaria Air once again confirms its strategy to expand its portfolio of services and improve its customer experience for the benefit of passengers and their comfort.
