Nuance BG AD

Nuance BG AD is a joint venture between The Nuance Group (50%) – acquired by the global travel retail leader Dufry in September 2014 – and Bulgarian Airways Group EAD (50%).

Established with the vision of delivering a premium retail experience for travelers, the company has been operating the duty-free stores at Varna Airport and Burgas Airport since 2013. The stores offer a rich and carefully curated selection of high-end products, including perfumes and cosmetics, alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, local specialties and wines, confectionery, accessories, sunglasses, leather goods, watches, jewelry, toys, and souvenirs. The assortment also includes exclusive-label products available only at Nuance BG stores.

With a total retail area of over 2,300 sq.m, distributed across the two Black Sea airports, the company ensures convenience and a wide product range for both departing and arriving passengers. At Burgas Airport, Nuance BG operates three duty-free stores and one arrivals store, while at Varna Airport, it manages six duty-free stores and one arrivals store.

In 2024, the company launched a large-scale investment project focused on the complete renovation of existing stores and the development of new zones featuring an innovative concept. The aim is to create a modern, intuitive, and inspiring shopping environment that combines international standards with deep knowledge of the local market and culture. Nuance BG follows a long-term strategy aimed at enhancing service quality, introducing innovation, and ensuring solid returns for its shareholders. All new and renovated stores are expected to be completed by the start of the 2025 summer tourist season, offering passengers a stylish and authentic shopping experience that reflects the spirit of Bulgaria.

Nuance BG AD is part of the global portfolio of Avolta – the world’s largest company in the Travel Retail and Food & Beverage sector. In November 2023, following the merger of Dufry and Autogrill, the two companies united under the new name Avolta. This strategic integration brought together leading international operators under a single brand, including The Nuance Group, Hellenic Duty Free, Hudson, Colombian Emeralds, World Duty Free, and HMSHost.

Today, Avolta operates in over 73 countries, across more than 1,200 locations, with a portfolio of over 5,100 stores and F&B outlets located in airports, seaports, cruise terminals, and other key travel destinations across all continents. In 2024, the company reported revenues of CHF 13.473 billion, compared to CHF 12.535 billion in the previous year, marking a 7.5% growth. Since that same year, Avolta has been a publicly traded company listed on the stock exchange.
